When I first got into radio control flying and found out there were actual twin engine R/C planes, I immediately thought of a P38. I thought it would be years, maybe never, before I owned one. After building a stand way off scale F4U, P40 and P51 I decided to start on a P38. I thought I could build it stand way off 1/8th scale and get about 80" wing span and weigh close to 12 lbs with twin .40 engines.

As I went the weight piled on. I could see I was gonna need bigger engines and I wanted counter rotating props so I decided on MDS .61's. The .61's have a 2 piece crankcase so they can be reversed. I found 2 of them on the net that were bench run only so I bought those. To control everything it takes 9 servos, 5 Y-harnesses, and close to '20 of servo wire. The big beast ended up weighing 16 lbs. A bit more than the original 12 but the .61's seem to fly it fine, as long as they both keep running.
